Samuel TANNER married Bethany HELMICK around 1840 in (West)
Virginia. Around 1844, my g-great grandfather, James TANNER
was born to them in Calhoun County West Virginia. SamueL died
sometime between 1850 and 1860. Bethany remarried a MCCUNE
in Kanawha County around 1862 and died shortly thereafter.
James TANNER joined the Union Navy in 1864. After the
Civil War he married Evaline LOWERS and they moved around
a great deal (I recently learned that James worked for the
railroad.) I have a great deal of information on the HELMICK
line but have not been able to determine for certain who
Samuel TANNERs parents were. From his age in the 1850 census
he would have been born circa 1825-1827. There are many
TANNERs in the area at that time. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
