Hi,
I find your will of Elizabeth SMITH very interesting. I know a Noah
SMITH was living near my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL, Esq. (1809-1865) in 1860 in
Jefferson County, GA. I also know a Luther C. SMITH (b. about 1835) married
his daughter, Julia R. DANIEL (b. 1843) in 1859 in Jefferson County, GA. I
assume this Noah was the father/grandfather of this SMITH boy.
A Noah TARVER is also mentioned in your post so it seems to be a given
name in this bunch. Do you know where they were from? Were they in any
way related to the Thomas SMITH, Esq. family of Charleston, SC?
I also know a sister of my Robert W. DANIEL, a Lucretia DANIEL
(1804-1849), married Allen TARVER, son of Mark E. and grandson of Samuel
TARVER and Celia JORDAN. She is probably buried over in Russell County, AL
where she and Allen moved about 1840. After her death, Allen TARVER dumped
their kids off on Lucretia's brothers (Robert W. and James L. DANIEL) and he
moved up to Burke County, GA where we find him in 1850. He alter re-married
and I do not know what happened to him.
The PALMERS are also very closely related to my DANIEL bunch. A
Ransom PETERSON or PATTERSON is also found with my DANIEL bunch in 1860 and
the ANDERSONS are part of that little group of RHODES, RHENEY, TARVER,
MURPHEY, BYRD, HOUSTON, COLLINS, DANIEL, EVANS, CARSWELL, CLARK, BANKS and
others from the Hephzibah area of Richmond County, GA. Most of them are
tied to the Brothersville Methodist Church of that area.
Also, in 1835, my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL, was sued in Burke County, GA by
a PATTERSON. This is from the archives at the University of GA and it is
the first instance I know of where his name was in print. I know the LITTLE
family is closely collateral with the PATTERSONS. I do not know the reason
for the suit but I will bet it is over family matters. This may mean that
one of his sisters married a PATTERSON and they were suing over some estate
matter since I think Robert's father died before 1835. I think his father's
name was Robert C. DANIEL (about 1765-about 1830) and his mother's name may
well have been Penelope, possibly LANE, as stated by the VALLOTTON family.
As you probably know, Hopeful Baptist Church of Burke County, GA is also
tied to the TARVER bunch in Burke County. Some of my DANIEL relatives are
also buried there - Nancy Daniel Erwin WISE (1799-1862) is one of them. The
VALLOTTONS, also related to my DANIEL bunch in more than one way, are also
buried there.
There are also suspected DANIEL connections to Conecuh County, Alabama
location you list. There may also be some type of family connection to the
panhandle area of FL in this family -- Jackson County, FL in particular.
I would be extremely interested in discussing these families with any
TARVER/SMITH from these lines.....
