Hi, ya'll,

This James Jenkins Tarver is my ggg-grandfather. I am descended through
James and Elizabeth to William Allen Tarver to Stella Lavada Tarver
Burney to Clifford Allen Burney to Barbara Ann Burney Gimler.

Did you know that James Tarver substituted for his brother-in-law
because the Army said Thomas Deen had deserted? However, after the war,
Thomas Deen was released from a Northern prisoner of war camp and
returned to Mississippi and later moved to Louisiana.

Had the Army known that Thomas was captured, James would never had to
enlist; would not have been killed; Elizabeth, his wife would not have
had to marry again; would not have had to emancipate her son, William
Allen at a very early age, so the land could be sold so she could follow
her husband to Louisiana.

Boy, my life probably would have been a lot different!

Hi,
Do you know if this is all that is mentioned about these Tarver's in the
article or if there is a more in depth story in the magazine? I have
this
link about the 33rd, Co. D.

http://msnhomepages.talkcity.com/LaGrangeLn/davidg33/CoD.html

The James J. Tarver listed here as a substitute for T.J. Dean is my ggg
grandfather. James Jenkins Tarver. The T.J. Dean is Thomas Jesse Dean,
brother of Elizabeth Jane Dean James Tarver's wife. James J. is the son
of
Demspey Tarver and Rachel Bunch.
I have a copy of his muster roll stating that he was killed July 20th at
the
Battle of Peach Tree Creek.

Thanks,

Margy
