: 1815
In 1815, John Tarver's second wife, Elizabeth, sued the six children of
his first marriage and the executor of his will over his estate. The
suit named the six children and also said his first wife was named
Jorden [Jordan] . . . .
- Elizabeth Tarver widow vs. Richard, Samuel, Benjamin and Andrew Tarver
and William Gibson, William Gilliam and James Jourdan. In her petition,
Elizabeth states she married 5 Sep 1795 to John Tarver, dec'd. On 26
Apr 1808, he wrote his will, naming his children: Richard Tarver,
Patience Gibson, then and now wife of William Gibson; Mason Tarver, then
wife of Robert Tarver, now intermarried with William Gilliam; Charlotte
Tarver, then and now wife of Samuel Tarver; Benjamin and Andrew Tarver,
all of Wilkes Co., Georgia, except Charlotte and Samuel, of Burke Co.
John Tarver died 6 Sep 1810. He had appointed David Bates, now dec'd
and James Jourdan, of Oglethorpe Co., as Executors. . . He had purchased
land in 1806 or 1807, being William Gibson's part . . . he held with his
bro. Geo. Gibson, bought of William Digby . . . that slave Hanna and
children were given the first wife by a Mr. Jourdan.
Richard Tarver, in his answer, states that while Elizabeth lived with
his father as his wife, he (Richard) owned the land . . . that Hanna was
loaned to his mother by the will of George Jourdan. . . that Jim was
given to him, and Hanna's other children were younger than Jim.
