Lotus,

I do not have a clue to help with your John Jenkins Tarver. However, I do
see the name Franklin arising in this family--James Franklin Tarver. Does
anyone have any idea how Franklin might have come into the Tarver family as
a given name? If this could be determined, it might help point to the
answer to your question.

John Tarver who married 1812 Martha Mathis/Mathews, had a son named Benjamin
Franklin Tarver. He was given as Franklin on the 1850 census. I do not
know the surname of John Tarver's mother. It could have been Franklin.

All evidence thus far indicates that John Tarver (who m. 1812 Martha
Mathis/Mathews) was the son of John Tarver and Elizabeth ______. Elizabeth
appears to have died 1795 in SC. In a Northampton deed in 1783, John and
Elizabeth Tarver sell land. I have not seen the details of this deed, but
hope to soon.
John must have married again, after Elizabeth Tarver died, as there
are a number of males (5) in his household in 1810 census of Amite County,
Mississippi.

I have not been able to find John Tarver who was in the Barnwell County, SC,
records, in the 1800 census.

Census records point to John Tarver being born about 1789. 1820 and 1830
show he was born 1780-1790. The 1810, Amite Co., MS, census of his father
John, has five males under 21. His wife, Martha, was clearly born in 1792 in
SC as per her tombstone in Carolina Presbyterian Churchyard, Neshoba Co.,
MS. Also, the 1850 census of Leake Co., MS, also supports her 1792, SC,
birth.

Cary
