The 1790 census of Orangesburgh District, South, SC., page 267 of the handwritten page, is quite interesting regarding John Tarver and David Odom.
# 2 on that page is John TARVER---------1--2----4----0--0--
# 3 is Henry COKER
# 4 is DAVID ODOM--------1--2----2----0--0--
#39 is William MATTHIS----1--1----1----0--0
#42 is John COCHRAN-----4--2----6----0--0
Column one is "Free White Males 16 and up, including Head"
Column two is "Free White Males under 16"
Column three is Free White Females"
OBSERVATION
This provides more information regarding the John Tarver, Jr., sale of land in 1804 to a
David ODOM. With the above census record, it is seen that John Tarver and David Odom
lived quite close together in 1790. The earlier 1800 census does not necessarily indicate that
David Odom and John Tarver lived further apart. The census taker may have been traveling in
another way from the one for 1790.
This 1790 census, handwritten version, is found at the following:
