Hi All,

First, I am pleased to see the number of people posting pick up. That posting for Mark Tarver who died 8 May 1849, is great. "...a native of Barnwell District, S.C." This shows some of the Barnwell Tarvers went into Georgia. Thomas Tarver, b. prior to 1755, was in Barnwell County, SC, and first is found 8n 1784 when a land survey was make for him. He is not found in the censuses until 1800. This census shows a number of males. This Mark just may be one of the males in Thomas Tarver's household in 1800.

Next, to the subject listed. I was getting the documents together to support the data on John Tarver and his wife Martha (Mathews) Tarver. I was looking at page 161 of the 1830 Franklin Co., Mississippi, Census. The breakdown of males and females in a John Tarver household supports
this is being the one who married Martha Tarver. What caught my attention was the listings of neighbors:

oldest male oldest female
#20 Dempsey Tarver--- of 30 and under 40 of 20 and under 30
#21 Margarett Bunch--- no male of 50 and under 60
#22 Joseph Hunt, of 30 and under 40 of 20 and under 30
#23 Christopher Garlington-of 40 and under 50 of 30 and under 40
#24 John Tarver of 40 and under 50 of 30 and under 40
#25 Becca Mossa [?] no male of 40 and under 50
#26 James Garlington of 40 and under 50 of 40 and under 50
#27 James Roberts, Jun 3 male 20-30 of 15 and under 20

It is difficult to tell if it is GARLINGTON or CARLINGTON, but believe it to be Garlington as there is a Gray near the top of the page.

This is the end of the page. I wish I had noticed this and have copied the next page. There might be others of the Barnwell Co. to Amite and Franklin Co., MS area. Only Margarett Bunch appears to be of one generation earlier. GARLINGTON, TARVER, and BUNCH are names familiar to those who have studied the Tarver family. If someone has this 1830 census of Franklin Co., MS, I'd like your interpretation of page 161 and then any familiar names on 162.

This census is one of the documents I am using to build the case for John Tarver (m. 1812 Martha Mathews) being the son of John Tarver, b. before 1755, lived in Barnwell Co., and Came to Amite Co., MS, m. Easter Shaddocks in 1811, and died in Amite Co., MS.

Dempsey and John Tarver both had sons name Allen. Then there is an Allen Tarver in Amite Co., MS, by 1810 census.

There is a Dempsey Odom right close to old John Tarver in the 1800 census back in Barnwell Co., SC.
[There is a chance that John Tarver's wife Elizabeth was an Allen and the mother of this Elizabeth was a Dempsey or vice versa. Or any other combination of ancestry for Elizabeth to include Dempsey and Allen. This is merely speculative thinking at the time, but names sometime lead back to ancestry.
