Randy:
Then who is the G. in Marshall Co, AL in 1840 census (pg 60, no twp
shown)? age 20-30, two males: 0-5, 5-10; female 20-30, 0-5.

I saw on microfilm some years the reference you show about Hempstead,
ARK but according to the AIS indexes, there were none named TARWATER in
Arkansas in 1840. In 1850 census there was George T. in city of
Camden, Ouachita Co., ARK - pg 87, #71-71, Jan 3, 1850 (Ouachita and
Hempstead both in south part of Arkansas) in 1850, age 43 b VA, wife
Lucy A.E. 35 VA, son William 15 b VA, and daughters Josephine E.5 b ARK
and Mary 3 b ARK. There are 10 years between William and Josephine.
Where was this family between 1835 and 1845? (Actually AIS has the name
misspelled. In the index he is shown as TARERATOR, Geroge, but the
actual census film shows George T. TARWATER (George Tewalt TARWATER?)

And in the 1850 Talledega Co., AL census (pg 465, #1582-1624 Dec 9,
1850), can you identify this family?
Mary S.(?) TARWATER (could be J? I? - illegible) age 43 b Georgia,
with children: Sarah J. 18 b AL, John W. 16 AL, Mary B. 10 b AL, Thomas
8 b Miss, James 6 Miss (is this James Polk Tarwater?). This entry puts
the family in Alabama sometime about 1832 and 1840. Is this perhaps
Mary S. (Polly HAWTHORNE) ? If she was Polly HAWTHORNE she married a
George TARWATER 27 July 1825 St. Claire Co., AL (Mrg Bk 18119-1849)
Polly was common nickname for Mary.

And regarding Hiram TARWATER - Are these different men? Or same one?
Hiram TARWATERS m Ann HAWTHORNE 24 Feb 1829 (Mrg Bk 1819-1849) Was she
sister to Mary (Polly) HAWTHORNE?
Hiram TARWATER in St. Clair Co., AL in 1830 (as per AIS)
Hiram TARWATER b ca 1815 TN, d 16 Mar 1860 Fayette Co., AL; m 20 Apr
1835 Marion, AL to Catherine TAYLOR ("Kittie" ?)
Hiram TARWATER dependent: Kittie TARWATER (widow), Hills County Alabama
Mounted Volunteers (Florida War); Filed Jan (Jun? - illegible) 1894;
Class: widow; Appl # 5181 AL )Ref: Roll T 318, reel #11, INDIAN WARS
PENSION FILES - index)
