Subject: [TX-1936] DRT Solves Problems with FauxAlamo
Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2011 12:17:53 -0600

Leave it to our better halves to come up with a solution to current DRT
problems. One practical spouse suggests the DRT forfeit custodianship of the
"The Alamo in San Antonio" and purchase John Wayne's 500-acre Brackettville
Alamo and Western Village. Asking price: a mere 6.5 million dollars.

No more fighting with the Governor of Texas over Trademark issues, leaking
roofs and preservation of historic buildings. How to get around co-mingling
Alamo and DRT Funds, admission fees, booze on the sacred grounds,
fundraisers in the Shrine, concerts, carnivals, fireworks, obnoxious green
screens and unsightly money making shacks are concerns of the past at DRT
FauxAlamo in Brackettville, Texas.

With the 500 acres the Brackettville Alamo Village provides, expansion will
be no problem. The site provides plenty of room for a new DRT Headquarters
and Museum as well as that spiffy new 15,000 sq. foot, seven story DRT
Library we all long for. No more kissing up to San Antonio city officials in
an attempt to get that pitifully small cul-de-sac only then to worry about
historic view sheds and how to raise $20 mil to move sewage pipe. With 500
acres we could build to our hearts content and still have enough room for
each DRT member to have her own highly coveted designated parking space at
the DRT FauxAlamo.

The President General would be the Mayor with her own security detail who
would carry sabers to cross over the royal head for special events. The DRT
FauxAlamo Committee Chairman and her minions could dress as fancy ladies and
operate the certain to be a success DRT FauxAlamo Gentlemen's Bar and Grill
with nightly entertainment to please the most discerning guests.

Surely there are a few DRT ladies with Native American blood, which would
pave the way for the establishment of The DRT FauxAlamo Casino. William
Morris Entertainment would be in charge of bringing in the big name
entertainers.

Think of the additional income that could be generated from Audio Tours that
cover 500 south Texas acres. We could rent jackasses, camels or carts to the
tourists to ride as they learn about the movies made at DRT FauxAlamo and
Western Village. And that big ole 'green screen' eyesore propped up at the
back of the Shrine could really bring in the bucks when moved to
Brackettville. That backdrop could be expanded to include the Eiffel Tower,
Great Wall of China and Mount Rushmore or wherever else those tourists want
to be while visiting DRT FauxAlamo. Pair this idea with those other great
fundraising plans generated by the creative talents who brought to the Alamo
the reenactment of "The Battle of New Orleans" and the now defunct $400,000
March 5th extravaganza and the DRT will once again make Texas Monthly.

Once respected as the guardians of the Alamo, sometimes viewed as quaint,
quirky and overzealous blue-haired little old ladies, we are now seen as Bum
Steers in less than two years.
