You might be interested to know that the Keith family (also originated
in Scotland) found their way down the Great Wagon Road into what is now
Pickens County, SC ca. 1785 and also have connections to the Royal
family of Scotland. Cornelius Keith tombstone at Oolenoy Baptist Church
has a seal from England to that effect. Very interesting to come across
in that little corner of the world.

Subject: RE: [THE ROAD] Question
Doreen and Teresa,
I descend from Lazarus Stewart and his wife Margaret Stuart (Steuart).
Lazarus was born in Scotland and immigrated before 1728. The earliest
record I find for him is in 1728:
Early Pennsylvania Land Records
MINUTE BOOK "I" THIS IS BOOK "I" IN THE SECRETARIES OFFICE.
28th 12 mo., 1728.
"George Stewart requests the Grant of about 500 Acres of Land below the
Fork
of Sawatara Creek, 200 Acres for himself and 300 Acres for his
Brother-in-Law, Lazerus Stewart."
Lazarus died in Lancaster Co., PA 29 Sep. 1744. At least three of his
children migrated to NC, SC and TN. It was my ancestor, David Stewart
s/o
Lazarus who settled in TN. However, David's son Lazarus was born in
Rowan
Co. NC, went to Washington Co. VA and there married Polly Pemberton.
They
migrated along with his parents to TN. The next in my line of descent
was
William Pemberton, Sr. (s/o the second Lazarus) and his wife Martha
Green.
Their son, William Pemberton, Jr. married Carolina Minerva Devasier in
1849
in TN. They migrated to Bell County, Texas - were pioneers in that area
and
are buried there. One of their daughters, Lizzie Drucilla Annie Stewart
married Samuel B. Salisbury and are my gr-grandparents.
I do not know which route(s) were taken, but the descendants of the
emigrant
Stewart/Stuart couple - Lazarus and Margaret, they travelled from PA to
VA
and on to NC and TN. From TN to TX, then OK. Some of their youngest
descendants now live in Norway :-)
Perhaps we have some Stewarts/Stuarts in common?
Sharon

Doreen,
My Stewart/Stuarts were in Va and NC. What line of Stewarts are you
researching? What States and what counties? I know of PA Stewarts in
Augusta Co Va (not much on them), PA Stewarts in
Rowan/Iredell/Surry/Mecklenburg Co NC. MD Stewarts in Rowan Co NC. Va
Stewarts that migrated to Rowan Co, Davie Co NC, then to Orange Co IND.
Stewarts in the Buncombe Co NC area. Stewarts in SC. And Stewarts from
all
over VA. I research Stewart/Stuart/Steward. Take your pick and let me
know
if I can help.

> Hi, I'm new to this list. Is it my understanding it deals with
migration
of the Scots (i.e. Stewarts') from PA, NC, OH, IN, VA, MD etc. I'm
researching the Stewart line and they seem to just around alot! So is
this
the place to be and ask questions? I haven't seen anything posted to
this
mailing list yet.
