I just rec'd a copy of this book yesterday, its a reprint and lists names of
hundreds of whites living in Cherokee lands in North Georgia from 1827-1838
when permits were required to live in Cherokee territory. The permits and
records collected by the Indian agents and officials at that time were very
detailed and actually covered the entire northern part of the state of Georgia
from Cobb and Paulding Counties north. It is suprizing the amount of
information garnered by the author of this work. Anyway more to the point...
it also lists those whites "married" to Indians. Gold had been discovered in
the lands occupied by the Cherokees and many whites were granted temporary
claims to work the land by the Georgia government. If anyone on this list
wants me to look up a name... I'll be glad to do so. Even if you don't think
they were in Georgia, remember some came to escape the removal, some passed
for white, some came long enough to work the mine claims and then left to head
west. Those THOMAS names listed are:
Evan
Evin
J.H.
Jemima
Jesse
Jessee
John
Joseph
Lemuel
Leonard
P.
Sam'l
Samuel
William

CHEROKEE INDIAN PRAYER
O Great Spirit, Help me always to
speak the truth quietly, to listen with
an open mind when others speak,
and to remember the peace
that may be found in silence.
