I have an Archibald Thomas b. 1825 son of Enos Thomas b. 1787 and Rachel
Miller . Enos is the son of Henry Thomas and Rachel Stillwell of Frederick
VA so it is possibly the right Archibald. The family was also in Bedford
Co. on Elk Creek prior to moving to Nelson Co KY.

Subject: [THOMAS] Archibald THOMAS

DB36:87
Bedford County, VA

On 31 Jan 1853 Archibald THOMAS of Lawrence County, Ohio bought land on the
waters of Elk Creek in Bedford County, Virginia from John SOWARDS, & Lucy B.
SOWARDS, his wife, and Peter SPEARS and Martha C. SPEARS, his wife of
Lawrence County, Ohio; their one fifth interests. Does anyone know what
family this Archibald THOMAS is
from?

as a witness with Joseph Longstreth and Joseph's wife Susanna.
>
> Joseph Longstreth bought the Benjamin Gilbert property in now Carbon
County in 1783. The Gilbert family were taken by the Indians while in Carbon
County, and upon the release and return of the famlily to Bucks County,
Longstreth and Robert McDaniel went to Carbon to rebuild the mill on the
Gilbert property. Robert settled there and married an Elizabeth Hicks,
parents unknown, who is stated to have been born in 1766 in Penn Twp., now
Carbon County PA. I can find no information about Elizabeth Hicks, stated to
be a Quaker in the history book, prior to her marriage though the text
states she was placed with William Thomas of Bucks County PA. William
Thomas, grandson of the Baptist minister of Hilltown PA, bought property in
Penn Twp. upon the sale of the property of another William Thomas, son of
Richard Thomas of Hilltown, Bucks Co., which property was located in
Northampton, now Carbon, after the latter William's property was confiscated
in 1776 for Tory activities. We still !
> do not know if Elizabeth was with the Tory William or the Hilltown Baptist
minister's grandson, although the Quaker religion mention for Elizabeth
leads more toward the Tory William Thomas, as he was a Quaker and the latter
owner a Baptist.
>
> To further confuse the issue, Elizabeth Hicks, name stated as Hicks in the
Matthews and Hungerford volume, is given as an Elizabeth Johnson in her
daughter's burial information located at the Lehigh County Historical
Society, Rev. Bauer's records.
>
> If anyone has any information on the parents of Robert McDaniel of Bucks
County there approximately from 1766 thru 1783, or of the origins of the
Elizabeth Hicks or Johnson who became his wife, please contact me. The most
probable origins of Elizabeth Hicks may be located in the Richland Twp. area
of Bucks County, likely with the George Hicks family there, but to date I
have found no information which connects here with them.
