Thompson Nexus, Summer 1993 - 5
1785: Molly Robinson and ____ Thompson [Was her husband William Thompson
s/o the William who died in 1781?] were married by now and may have been
neighbors of her brother Jesse Robinson in Pittsylvania Co., VA. In 1785
Jesse Robinson sold his land on Mill Creek, described as "beginning by
Thompson's line". (Pittsylvania Co., VA, Deed FHL 7899, Part 10, p. 468)
1791: Molly (Robinson) Thompson's father Christopher Robinson died in
Halifax Co., VA. (See above)
1793 and 1797: Records of a William Thompson in Halifax Co., VA. If he
had been neighbor of Jesse Robinson in Pittsylvania Co. in 1785, either
he moved back to Halifax Co., or owned properties in both counties.
(Mill Creek in Pittsylvania Co. was just a few miles west of the Halifax
Co. line, on the Bannister River)
1793: William Keen and Polly Pleasants married. Surety was Wm. Thompson.
(Halifax Co., VA Marriage Bonds 1753-1854)
28 Feb. 1797: John Scott, Wm Thompson and John Clark, greetings, whereas
Wm. Keen hath sold to John Legrand in Halifax County and Polly his wife
cannot travel to County seat they are to go and ascertain if it is
alright that Wm. Keen sell. (Halifax Co. W/D B17 P115.)
Ve seem to be tracking one William Thompson to this point, then... the
following records are obviously for three different, William Thompsons,
all associated with our known family names:
23 Dec. 1814: Estate of Capt. Jeremiah Kenn, "to cash for purchase of
articles of clothing for dec'd family 2.17.0 to Wm. Swinney for coffin
grave and carriage; l4.11.0 for Thompsons receipt, letter to Wm.
Thompson for preaching funeral .12, etc. (Campbell Co. VA B3, p. 327)
1814: William Thompson will in Halifax Co., wife apparently deceased;
names daughter Lucy and heirs of John R. Cocke of Georgia, s/o Nathaniel
Cocke. (CS 31858 Index to Halifax Wills) The names suggest that this
William is the son of the William who died in 1781. This William would
have been the "only son and would have been born ca 1761, and would be
around 54 vears old in 1814.
1819: Michael Roberts buys land from a Wm Thompson in Halifax Co., VA.
Michael was the the second husband of Sarah Robinson, sister of Molley
(Robinson) Thompson.
QUERY: Anyone with information on any of these Thompsons, especially
Molly (Robinson) Thompson, Please contact: Betty Riley, 2332 Ranch
Drive, Westminster, CO 80234.
