THOMPSON, EWELL SMITH, Oak Ridge

- died at his home in Oak Ridge on May 27, 2003. Born
December 6, 1919 he was the youngest of five children of the late Dr.
M.E. Thompson and Etta Boshears Thompson of Oneida, Tenn. A member of
First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge, he was also a member of the
American Legion and the B.P.O.E. After attending the University of
Tennessee, Mr. Thompson served as an officer in the United States Air
Corps during World War II and was stationed in England, Belgium and
Germany. Following the war he and his wife, Clarice moved to Oak Ridge
where he worked for Union Carbide until his retirement in 1980 as
manager of the telephone communications department. He was one of
>the founding members of the K-25 Credit Union in Oak Ride and served as
its treasurer for 25 years. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 60
years, Clarice Evans Thompson; two daughters and sons in law, Anne and
Stephen Parker of Atlanta, Ga. and Jane and Fred Bolton of Los Alamos,
NM; and six grandchildren, Ellen Elizabeth Parker, Boston, Mass.; David
Ewell Parker, Boulder, Colo.; Sarah Webb Parker, Atlanta, Ga.; and Laura
Elizabeth Bolton, Caroline Anne Bolton and Evan Fredric Bolton of Los
Alamos, NM. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May
29, 2003 at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends
that evening from 6-8 p.m. in the parlor of First United Methodist
Church in Oak Ridge. Memorials may be made to the Discretionary Fund of
the First United Methodist Church, Oak Ridge, Tenn. Or the charity of
choice.
Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge in charge of arrangements.
