I'm intersted in this discussion because my great great grandfather James
Henry Thompson, b. 1827 in Littlestown, PA (of a line that originated in
Baltimore) raised a little boy named Julian Smallwood, who was African American.
Another Thompson had Julian's sibling.
James Henry and his mother Anna Mary Long Sell Thompson were part of the
underground railroad. Mary Thompson's home later became the headquarters of Robt
E Lee for the battle of Gettysburg. It is now a museum.
