Elmer, and others,

The decendants of william Thorn(e)c.1617 of NY do cover the entire country,
actually starting in MA. They migrated slowly from NY to NJ, PA, VA and so
on. The PA Thorn(e)'s went to MD, Ohio and WV and elsewhere including
Canada. the VA lines went from there to all over the South and South West.
I find it interesting that my Thorne and Chew lines both take the paths
west but I have yet to find a connection between the two although they wound
up in the same towns and counties.

Also, when researching the Thorne name be sure to search by both Thorne &
Thorn. I have lines where the name gose back and forth, some where siblings
pelled it differently.

If you have not done so check out this Thorne website:
http://thorn.pair.com/
This site has tons of information and a family forum as well.

My particular line ws a tough one to connect, but after getting acces to
the census records and Philadelphia PA business directories I was able to
connect things and dates. (I'm #3274 in the William Thorne line).

One interesting thing I found in my research of the Thornes was that in the
late 1840,s and early 1850's one family was in Dublin Indiana at the Quaker
Church. In the the 1990's my sister joined that very same church.
