Looking thru the file cabinet we found a typewritten genealogy probably done
by W.E. Thornton, saved by Sylvanus Thornton, given to Frances Jacobs
Winslow by Sylvanus's widow, Ruth Lundy Thornton as Frances was the only
family member who was interested in Genealogy.

The information covers birth, death, marriage records, personal letters
discussing genealogy from 1900-1927, obituaries, newspaper clippings, family
reunions, Golden Wedding Anniversaries.

After parents died in 1851 some of the children moved to Drew Co, AR, to
Texas, or stayed in MS.

I would appreciate any leads.

As you can see they are listed in South Carolina But we must keep in mind that as America was
forming the names of place have changed an evolved into a very confusing
set of circumstances. It is possible that
even families writing bible records and living in the wilderness
may not have known, or even recogized, a change in the boundry lines.
It is also interesting
to note that many Maryland Families moved to the North and South
Carolina areas during this time
period... Maryland was becoming heaviely populated and many of the
Bonded emigrants to America that had arrived in the early 1700's,
had by this time worked off the bonded debt and wanted a new beginning.
Those who had land in Maryland wanted a more expansive plantation and
also began to move south.

But as we can see both of these ELijah Thorntons have possibilities...
especially when we remember that the Georgia area was not US territory
after the revolution and if you were wanting to settle your family
outside its boundries you moved to Georgia.
