"John A. Tighe
Dr. John A. Tighe, 81, Punta Gorda, died June 12, 2004.
He was born June 2, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was headmaster of Alpha Omega Pi Fraternity in Brooklyn, N.Y. He went to college in New York where he initially studied art and then, deciding to become a physician, went on to medical school in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he graduated in 1957. After completion of medical school, he returned to New York where he did his internship and residency in radiology at the Long Island College Hospital.
He left New York and began practice as an independent radiologist in New London, Conn. He maintained his practice for 30 years there, as well as serving as a consultant in radiology at the Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., and at Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton, Conn.
He was a member of the Porsche Club of America for 25 years, a member of the American Medical Association and a member of the Port Charlotte Yacht Club.
Survivors include his ex-wives Denise Mayland in Mineral Wells, Texas, and Peggy Eskut-Gutzweiller in North Carolina.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel, with services at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic Conn., at a later date."
