Cousins and Colleagues
I am descended from the tangled Martha's Vineyard Tiltons, but there are
two Tiltons who are total mysteries, and I am hoping some kind soul
might be able to unravel these mysteries. (PS--all my information comes
from the History of Martha's Vineyard by Dr. Charles Banks)
John Tilton, son of Daniel Tilton of Middletown, NJ, came to MVI about
1762 and remained there about 20 years when he emigrated to Vassalboro,
ME (1784) and died there. His two marriages, to Martha Young and to
Jane Tilton (not a relative that we are aware of), produced offspring
who became my direct lines. I am interested in finding John's mother
and his ancestry from both his parents.
David Tilton (Uriah, Josiah) was born May 5, 1752. It was said he moved
to New Bedford, MA, but his death is recorded in Chilmark, MVI, on Sep.
14, 1796. He married Mary Tilton on Jul. 2, 1775. Who does this Mary
Tilton belong to?????
