It's not a bug or a programming goof. I suppose it could be set to be
enclosed in brackets, but that would _also_ be an enhancement, not a fix.
Unique endnotes were not originally available, except when printing, because
none of the word processors on the market can do unique footnotes, so no
codes for them exist. (Word, perhaps others, can clumsily imitate them,
with the cross reference feature, but each cross reference has to be
individually set, by hand.) Many of us asked Bob to set things up so that
the unique footnotes could none-the-less be exported to our WP, as text. He
acquiesced and did so. At that time, nobody asked for the feature you need,
so it wasn't done (there were "lots of other things that needed fixing"
<g>). The same coding that produces the enclosing brackets in the actually
footnoted text should work for the unique footnoting.
Personally, what I usually do in ascii insertions like that is to choose to
enclose the sources in parens, within the body of the text. Anyone who
started badmouthing TMG because it didn't pay much attention to ascii text
formatting, I'd just start sending reports to as attached formatted Word 97
files. If he/she couldn't receive attachments, then tough <g>. Such people
would complain if they were being hung with a new rope.
