I ran a test and see that my original thinking was muddy. The report is
doing exactly what it says -- following the surname only. Since the
daughters have the target surname, they are shown in the same manner as the
sons. But their children do not have the target surname, so they are not
carried forward.
To get what you want, you will have to make a temporary dataset. Because
you want the parents of the spouses, it will take two steps.
First, make a Custom Flag called Interim with values NY (N is the default.)
In TMG 4.0, custom flags are made by choosing File > Customize > Flags.
Then design a new List of People Report. I always use the CRW for this,
but you can also use the Report menu.
On the General Tab, select Screen and Supress for Secondary Output. Also
give it a name.
On the Secondary Output Tab, select Change Flag Interim to Y
On the Focus Tab, select Filtered Group and the following fliters.
( ID Number Equals [?] OR
Is a Descendant of Person Number [?] ) AND
Sex Flag Equals M END
and then add their X Spouses
When you generate the report, you will be prompted twice for the ID of your
target progenitor.
Make another List of People for the second step. This time, the Secondary
Output is
Create New Data Set.
The focus filter is
Interim Flag Equals Y END
and then add their ancestors for x 1 generation
The last clause picks up the parents of the spouses.
After you generate this report and create your new data set, you select the
new data set to generate your "modified register" report.
This technique of a temporary dataset can be used to produce many different
kinds of reports.
