I use the template for Electronic Database (Family File). I assign a surety of 1
-- in my personal surity scheme I use 0 for guesses that have only the slightest
hint of evidence to support them, and I assume the compiler has slightly more
than that to go on.

If the compiler gives a general statement of sources but doesn't assign them to
individual entries, I note them in the memo space of the source definition.

When the compiler gives source information that is linked to specific entries, I
handle them in one of two ways:

If the identification of the source is vague, or if it seems to be a one-time
reference to a person of little interest to me, I note the source info as "citing
_____" in the CD of the cite to the Gedcom (putting the Gedcom's description of
the source in the blank).

If the source is clearly documented, especially if it is for someone I care about
and might want to go look at myself, I create a normal source entry for that
source. For the repository I create one showing the Gedcom, with a note that I
didn't see the source but it was cited in the Gedcom. I also show the individual
source as a "source of a source" for the Gedcom. Finally, for each entry that the
individual source applies to, I cite it with a note in the CD that I didn't see
it, but it was cited by the Gedcom.

I've had cases where sources were tied to individuals, but I couldn't tell which
facts about the individual came from the source. In that case, I made the cite to
the name tag only.

Hope that gives you some ideas.
