FWIW --- to clear up a bit a technicality here --

Virtual drives are created from RAM memory and are not drives at all --
hence the use of the word "virtual". They only seem to operate like a
drive to you and to the computer. That is, until you turn off the computer
or hit reset. Then the content of a virtual drive disappears.

When you partition a hard drive into smaller drives, you are creating
_logical_ drives from a _physical_ drive. These logical drives are actual
drives albeit just a smaller part of a physical drive. Unlike a virtual
drive, logical and physical drives retain the information stored in them
after power is removed.
