I have a fairly basic ricoh digital camera which i always take to the
library. I have used it a number of times to take pictures of both
microfilm and microfiche. the success on microfiche has been very
satisfactory.
The use on microfilm readers has been more problematic. The autoexposure
feature on my camera focuses on the middle of the screen which is also the
center of the light. My pictures end up readable in the center but as you
move from the center of the screen/picture it turns nearly black. By
adjusting the midtones in a graphics program I have been able to lighten it
up enough to read it toward the edges... inconvenient but workable.
I use my camera a lot at the library and my biggest problem is the lack of a
steady hand. A tripod would definitely help but it is another
inconvenience.
