Don't look at it as adding a "dummy" parent. It is simply an individual
whose name you don't
currently know. You know there was at least one parent in common - you
can't assume
both, so I wouldn't add both; you maybe know what the surname of that
parent was. So you
have two facts about that person - that they had a child "A" and a child
"B". Those are
beginnings of the idividual for whom you are searching, so it makes sense
to record it.
