Hi Garry,
Probably not the most efficient, but I've always kept a MS Access database
for my source trawls, as I take my laptop with me on research trips and key
what I find directly into the appropriate table (I've set up tables for
Marriage, Birth, Death, Electoral Roll etc etc). (My writing is terrible, so
I can hardly ever read my notes but I can touch type!)
When I get home I sort into various orders to work out what I've found and
enter the likley looking ones into TMG.
This is why I keep wanting the picklist to have more than the one level of
sorting without having to do a filter down to something very specific, eg
surname and forename, then sort by birth date or whatever. I'd much prefer
to be able to filter on just surname and sort on forename and birth, so I
can see more at once.
I find it harder to detect likely duplications in TMG than in my previous
software.
When I've a name that is connected somehow, but without the direct links
being stated, I now put them as a "witness" to an appropriate event,
changing the sentence structure to reflect what I know about the connection.
Every so often I combine up all my MS Access tables by surname, eg HENDERSON
events into one table from the individual marriages, births etc and do
another sort/review of what all I've accumulated in case another grouping
falls out I'd missed.
Maybe this will give you some ideas,
Regards,
Lorna
