Paul,
I came over from FTM v.7.5 at the beginning of November. Since then the
only thing I've used FTM for is to print the monthly calendar of family
birthdays/anniversaries and to make a few paginated box charts (I'm not sure
how you do it in VCF--yet). And to read my FTM CDs. You're probably be the
same way.
What you should do once you import is to go to the Master Place List and
shift some of those places into their correct slots; if you notice
misspellings, correct them; and don't worry about correcting it ALL at once.
It'll be there tomorrow. Remember there is universal find and replace if
you want to change something like PA to Pa. or MN to Minn.
Next go to the Master Repository List and go through them top to bottom,
one by one, and make sure each entry is filled in correctly. Then do the
same for the Master Source List. I found that you have everything you
entered in FTM there; but its almost never in the right place. The fault
for that resides in FTM and their almost awful citation template.
If you haven't read the books by Mills or Lackey, do so. NOW. You have
to decide if you want to use Mills or Lackey soon, and its probably best to
choose one and stick with it. You can get Lackey for under $10US. Mills
isn't much more. And you're probably need it for reference. May I advise
you, read both, and buy the one you chose to use? The public library should
have copies of both (or be able to get copies).
Good luck.
