I have observed two types of computer freeze up:
(1) it just happens - the user did not do any action - the computer just
lost its way. This is usually due to a conflict in the machine
configuration, hardware settings, running incompatible software or too few
resources - all of which can be hard to identify and which vary infinitely
from machine to machine.
(2) it freezes not long after a mouse-click, the active window goes to sleep.
In this second case, I have found that it can be due to incomplete
programming of the application when operating with a faulty mouse. If you
get a series of freezes try changing your mouse - it may be triple clicking
or some other malfunction that sends unexpected events to the application
which is then bamboozled and waiting for something that never comes..
