Those who subscribe in digest mode *can't* use the delete key on
individual messages. It's a physical impossibility. (Nor is this
an useful strategy when the subject line is so often obsolete or
irrelevant.)

Borrowing numbers from Lee's post of several days back, 830
digest subscribers have no choice (beyond unsubscribing) in the
matter of what they receive in the way of mail from this list. On
the other hand, each of us as an individual *does* have the
choice of observing (or ignoring) one of the cardinal rules of
mailing list netiquette -- stay on topic, and when you can't,
take the conversation offlist.

Digest readers, as a matter of fact, outnumber (830 to 781) mail
mode subscribers on this list -- a fact which I wish some of the
more garrulous would acknowledge and respect.
