I can't really make a comparison between Word and WP; each has features
that I like. I can tell you that WP is rapidly losing its market share in
part because Word or a version thereof often comes on a computer when you
buy it. Many people won't spend the extra dollars for a second word
processor if their computer already has one. At the college where I teach,
they did a community business survey and the consensus was Word. We offer
very few WP classes and there are some quarters when not one even student
enrolls in WP. MS certification is also growing and the demand for it is
increasing, thus also pushing the need for many people to learn Word as a
job skill.

I personally think that anyone who is neglecting to learn and use Word is
being foolish. Remember WordStar? I don't think it will be too long down
the road that WP will entirely disappear from the landscape, except for a
few diehards. It may be that WP is more prominent in Canada since it is the
headquarters of Corel. I also find regional uses. East Coast seems to use
WP in the business world as does a lot of California. Washington state
seems to be almost entirely Word, perhaps because MS is in Redmond. Anyway
those are just my observations based on file sharing with law firms from
around the country and the pleas that I get for Word assistance from family
and friends who live in other parts of the country.
