I use a List of Events report (which I titled "List of Events in a Place"),
with the focus:
Place Contains [?]
and the output columns:
Tag Type Label
Prin1 ID #
Prin1 Last, Given

This not only gives you the person, but also the event that contains whatever
place name (or partial name) that you enter.

In your case, I'd use that report, entering "place missing" or "in library"
when prompted for a place name. Several times when I've imported data, some
non-place information has found its way into the place list. This report
helps me correct it.
