When you enter the information for a source you can select from many
different fields for the data entry. It would seem useful to be able to
subsequently search across all these different fields at the same
time. Also I tend to think in terms of classification systems and want to
set up my source database more like a library catalogue with some type of
subject headings. I can see that it is nice to have it linked to the
genealogical database, and maybe I'm trying to make it too complicated,
but seeing as you enter the information in all those separate fields in the
first place it would be nice to be able to have the potential to use it.

In the List of Sources Report can you select all fields and search the
whole Sources database for all occurrences of a word no matter what field
it is in?

I suppose I am thinking of the Sources database as a bibliographic database
like a library catalogue and it really isn't intended to be that.

For instance if my geographic target is Hertfordshire, I'd like to be able
to search the source database for all the records that relate to that, no
matter what record type they are. When I go to enter a record for, say,
a directory for Hertfordshire, there isn't a field for location or subject,
so the only way I could find it is if the title contains my keyword. Also
I was thinking of setting up some kind of filing system for the material I
collect so I'd also need a field in the database for a file number to link
to. With your own materials how do you link them to the source database?

Sorry to be asking all these questions all the time,
Jane
