Both Lee and Teresa have responded to your message with their thoughts. The
only number I remember is mine.... then use the Tree View to find the
ancestor of choice.
There are other ways I use the Reference field which helps on the Picklist
and on *In House* reports.... also acts as a compact summary of desired
information for an individual. At the present time, I use:
contents of the Related Flag [A, C, D, X, U, AM, CM, DM]
when ladies surname not known [spouse surname]
Died young or no issue [DSP]
Military data [CSA, RW, 1812, W1, W2, etc]
File Folder exists [FF]
Example of Reference field entry might be:
A FF
A1G FF CSA
A2G DM
A4G* RW
C DM DSP FF CSA
D W2
X RW 1812
When the Picklist is sorted on Reference, the resulting list is sorted on my
*Related Flag designation* since that is the first item entered into the
Reference field. So far, there has been no need to increase the length of
the Reference field beyond 20.
