The internet is the system of computers and connections between
computers that is spread basicaly all around the world. In layman terms
you could say it's the hardware and wiring, although technically there
is a lot of system level software that is properly part of the
"internet."

On the "internet" we have the "World Wide Web," email, ftp, and a lot of
other near obsolete systems like "gopher" etc. The world wide web or
WWW is that body of information (for lack of a better way to say it)
that is available on the internet and requested/transferred using http
(hyper-text-transfer-protocol).

The logic in AGH3RD's statement is that the ability to transfer
information electronically isn't necessarily bad. The ability to post
undocumented garbage with the appearance of being good research is bad.

Hope this is semi-technical enough to answer your question.

joe.

I have heard others distinguish between the "internet" and the "www,"
but I have to admit that I don't know the difference. Can you explain?

Thanks,
