The default Resided tag is a member of the OTHER tag group.
The default Address tag is a member of the ADDRESS tag group. Only apparent
difference in this group is that in entering and editing the interface
"mask" allows access to the Zipcode and Telephone Number place fields, where
other tags do not.
A long time ago (TMG DOS days) I decided for myself that the only difference
between Resided and Address was time. Address was current, contemporary.
Resided was more historical. There is one problem with this. As time goes
by, a new address can supercede and old address. For many reasons, I would
not want to have two Address tags active with an individual. What I wanted
was to convert the "old" address to a Resided tag, but that cannot be done
in the tag editing window because Address tags and Resided tags belong to
different tag groups. I could create a new Resided tag and copy the
information from the Address tag, but there is a chance of introducing error
*and* unless I put it in the memo field, I lose the Zipcode and Telephone
Number, as those fields are not available in the Resided tag.
What I did to deal with this was to create a new Resided tag in the ADDRESS
group and I converted the old Resided tags to the ADDRESS group by editing
the tag table with Access, outside of TMG. Now, when I get a new address for
someone, I simply edit the old Address tag and change the tag type from
Address to Resided. All of the data remains accessible, including the
Zipcode and phone number.

I also use the Address tag for business addresses, sometimes old
ones, taken from business cards, and I reserve the Residence tag for
addresses at which a principal clearly lived. It's then simple to run a
report of people who actually lived in a specific village, town,
county, state, or other place.
