I can't speak for Gail but in my case a LOT of my information does not come
from public records. I gave been granted access to certain family archives,
albums, letters, etc, with the understanding that it will NOT be shared until
I publish. These families have also agreed to limit access to these sources
to myself and one research assistant. While I'm sure that if I could share
the data with others I could advance the work more quickly I would also limit
my access to certain data to a drastic degree- something that I am unwilling
to do.
