Frankie - I don't have access to the British records through Ancestry.com,
but do have a regular subscription, census, and newspaper subscription.
Usually if you find a source you want to look at, go to that page, and then
click on the title of the item (in blue at the top) you will get the
information about the source. It is usually quite extensive. I always copy
that part too, when I am printing off records.

Hi Phil and Marilyn,
Marilyn, thanks so much for the recommendation. One of my friends also had
recommended Herber's book.
Phil, I basically am interesting in obtaining primary source documentation.
If I have to get a "lead" online, so be it. I subscribe to Ancestry.com and
even am paying the extra charge for the British records. I haven't checked
them lately, but I was very disappointed at first, since they do not list
source citations--so you have no idea where to go to find the primary
source.
I am trying to put families together who arrived in the Colony of Virginia
probably in the mid-1600's, but records are scarce here before about 1677. I
know they are English. I am hoping that I might be able to find some baptism
records in England or wills of their various fathers or mothers in England.
So, I need to know, basically, what type of records existed in that time
period; where to find them; what the various repositories are in England and
what are in these repositories; and where best to look for manuscript
collections. I also am very interested in land records and tax records, if
any. I am always interested in background and general history.
Thanks so much.
Frankie
