Subject: [TMG] Master Source List

Greetings,

I am finally beginning to use TMG5 and started to add my first person by
selecting Add a Person. (I've not entered info before today). I am confused
about citing a source. I've watched the video but am unsure of how to handle
the following. I hope I've explained my problem clearly. I feel badly if I've
bothered you for something I should understand. Thank you so much for your
help.

In adding Ludwig Wenner, I entered his given name, surname, and birth date. I
clicked on the + sign by citation. When the citation window appeared I
clicked on the binoculars. But it didn't bring up the long list of sources I
thought I'd see from the MSL. There was nothing in the MSL window. Since I
was using an IGI record as my source (I'm sorry as I don't remember exactly
how I got to the following but think it went like follows:), I double clicked
the ADD button, which brought up Source Types, found International
Genealogical Index entry and double clicked it. Got Source Definition Screen,
where I entered a title(First German Presbyterian Church, Rivington St. NY,
NY, NY Call #503629) for the record I'd ordered, put marriage by Subject
field (is that what "subj" field is for since it is a marriage), and what
does <Date> field mean? The date I obtained that record from FHL?

Next I added his wife and again when I went to cite the same source, I
clicked on the binoculars and only that source, First German Presbyterian
Church......., is there to choose from. That's fine, of course, since it is
what I wanted. But is this how it works?

Another question. I now want to add a child. It's from the same church
records but different call # under the IGI. Should I go to Source Type,
highlight International Geneal......Index Entry, double click it and put same
abbreviation and same title as above except for the Call # (since it is now a
birth/christening). I don't know if that would make it a different source
from the earlier one or not.

If someone has some clear steps for me to follow concerning this I would
appreciate it. I guess I'm confused about the terminology of MSL, Source
Definition, etc. I have looked at the links from whollygenes but my mind
isn't working well today <G>

Ann
