I agree entirely. If you don't update your system regularly, it will be
vulnerable to viruses. If updates were causing crashes, something is
seriously wrong. Of course with Microsoft, good luck trying to get it fixed
without paying them.

This advice is an invitation to disaster and ranks as one of the worse
pieces of advice ever given on this mailing list. And this is not a personal
attack. Please don't take it as so.

First, if updates are associated with system crashes, your system has a
serious problem independent of the updates and needs repair. I would
actually recommend a clean install.

Second, a major component of the Windows updates are _security_ updates. If
you use the Internet and you obviously do, the updates are a major component
of staying in front of the bad guys.

Everyone, without exception, should be updating their operating system
regularly and frequently.
