Holly, do you have Accent on? If so, do you have multiple conditions in your
Accent definition? I found this can slow things down considerably during
data entry. If you have Accent on and turn it off, does your performance

Subject: [TMG] performance issues

One of my TMG databases is extremely (painfully) slow. This was true in
5.03 as well as the new version. All of my other TMG databases run very

I have a powerful high-end Sony Vaio, 6 months old, so it's not a lack of
resources on the desktop. It is regularly defragged and checked with all
the Norton utilities. All my other programs run as quickly as expected.

The TMG database with just under 10k people is running so slowly that
simple operations are taking a minute or more to complete. (For example:
add a date to an existing death tag and close it.) Adding a new person
can take two minutes.

I have run reindex, optimize, and check for errors from the maintenance
menu many times. I tried saving it as a sqz file and reloading it. I
have relatively few internal exhibits - probably fewer than 10. The
problem occurs whether the project explorer is open or not.

Any ideas? Should I send WG a copy of the db once they recover from
supporting the new release? How have others solved performance
problems? I know that people have much bigger databases than this one.

For what it's worth, this was originally imported from FTM several years
ago. I have gone through most of the entries and cleaned up most of the
import problems. The performance has steadily degraded for the past few
