When I had to copy a large amount of information from a researcher from
another branch of the family, I imported the GEDCOM to a new file. (TMG makes
you make a new file. ) I opened the new file and made sure everything was
working right...then I deleted the file and did it again remembering to
select the tmg features such as accents and tags etc. After a few tries, I
had a new database that was in the same format as my database. Then I got
rid of some of the people I knew would duplicate before I imported. I wrote
down the people who would duplicate and then I merged the two files. I went
to the duplicate people and merged them and it worked perfectly. There were
a few bits of information that I entered manually to my own program so I
wouldn't have to import that person and hence, create a duplicate. I was
pleased with the results.
