Teresa, thanks for trying to help. Now you see what I've been going
through. <LOL>
I just tried -- again in the Title and Suffix fields and the result was
"- Christianna Hammon -"
A single dash (-) has no effect at all:
" Christianna Hammon "
[Poor Christena Hammond!]
As I mentioned, ANY literal text added to a Name Style seems to have the
exact same effect on the conditional quality of the fields (not just ").
The only exceptions I see are parentheses and comma. I tried using a pair
of asterisks so the thing would be easily found in WP and had the same
result. I tried a number of other "unique character strings" with the same
thought in mind but nothing worked to remove the extra spaces. With any
luck, one of the Beta Testers is listening. <G> It may well be a bug as you
suggest, but then it may be this way for some design reason.
Anyway, if I figure it out I'll let ya know. Right now, I'm pretty well
stumped.

Linda,
Once again, I would report that to TMG. Another thing, try that again,
but put -- in the TITLE field of the name and see if that works. I know
we are sending you through hoops here, but if you ever figure out a
solution, it will be a first for all of us. <G> And you can make
directions and I will add it to my website for future users.

Teresa,
Sorry I missed this reply to John when I wrote earlier. I'm game to
manually enter the quotes in one of the empty fields. I changed
[Prefix] to
[QuotationOpen] and [OtherName] to [QuotationClose] and composed the
Output
template as:
[QuotationOpen][Title] [GivenName] [Surname] [Suffix][QuotationClose]
Believe it or not, the result was:
" Christianna Hammon "
I think I'd laugh if I wasn't so disappointed. It sounded like a doable
solution to ME. <g>

Didn't test it, so you might be right. So far I haven't had the problem
she is reporting, so I think it has something to do with the "s. Another
thing she can do is put the " in the prename and suffix name fields and
then suppress those fields in the output template for the indexing
output. But she'd have to remember to put it in each time.

Teresa,
Last time I checked, conditional variables did not work in Name Styles.
There is one special rules for literals in Name Styles. If you put
([Title])
in a Name Style template, the parentheses will be suppressed if Title is
empty.
To my knowledge, that is the only case where literal text is
conditional. I
can't recall if I tried double quotes...
