I am still fairly new about research in this area of the country so haven't a clue as to what county this might have been. Do you know of any good websites where I could find maps of early counties in 1700's?

Babara,

I think Montgomery is old Prince George County, Maryland, right? My James
and Mary Wright and family moved from East Nottingham, Chester County,
Pensylvania to Monocacy
Creek (Historical), Prince George County, Maryland in 1725, they later
followed the exodus to the Southern Piedmont. My COOKS probably followed a
similar path at a similar time.
