Stuart,

FWIW, LizardTech offers a free program called "MrSID Viewer" on their
website download page:

http://lizardtech.com/download/?f=0&d=1

The viewer also allows you to save .sid images as .tiff so they can be used
in other programs. It's really handy and works much like the online viewer
at Ancestry.com.
