What is the best way to input census records in TMG? I have a different tag for each year (ex: CEN1930, etc.). However, I have been entering the personal data collected from the census into the memo field, and then copying the tag to each person listed.
For example:
Sullivan, Leonard S. - Relation: Head; home rented; does family live on a farm: No; Sex:M; Color:W; Age at last birthday: 34; Civil Condition: Married; Age at first marriage: 26; able to read and write; POB: Missouri; POB of Father: Missouri; POB of Mother: Missouri; able to speak english: yes; Occupation: mechanic; Business: Auto Shop; Class of Worker: W; Actually at Work: Yes; Veteran: Yes; War: WWI
-----, Myrtle I - Relation: Wife; Sex:F; Color:W; Age at last birthday: 22; Civil Condition: Married; Age at first marriage: 15; able to read and write; POB: Texas; POB of Father: Tennessee; POB of Mother: Texas; able to speak english: yes; Occupation: none
-----, Richard B - Relation: Son; Sex:M; Color:W; Age at last birthday: 6; Civil Condition: Single; Attendend School any time since Sept. 1, 1929: No; POB: Texas; POB of Father: Missouri; POB of Mother: Texas
This gets a little redundant in output to reports, but I like knowing who was listed with that person. Is there a better way to do this? Maybe list the others as witnesses? I'm not real familiar with how that works. Do you place the census tag only in the head of the household's person view, and just link the others as witnesses. Or do they each get a census tag as well with only that person's data as well as being linked as witnesses to the others in the household? Or should I make a tag for each piece of data given in a census and just make sure to cite the census as my source, then just leave the memo field blank on my census tag?
Also, what kind of sentences are used? Right now I have this as my census tag sentence [:CR:][:CR:]1920 census taken <[D]> <[L]> Census Lists:<[:CR:][M]>[:CR:][:CR:]. I'm not entirely sure what kind of sentence to use for a witness. How does it show up in reports?
Thanks for any help,
Kara
