OT of an OT thread.
This reminds me of something that really excited those who track human
illnesses a couple of years ago (and I'm sure still does). The
introduction of the Euro. For those who haven't seen the new currency,
each country created their own bills and coins, the currency would work
everywhere that took a Euro. So a German Euro is spends the same as a
French Euro. But the interesting part was that they are different,
different pictures (same sizes), different watermarks etc. The
researchers were tracking how long it took the different countries
currencies to move from one country to another. How did it move, by
travelers going from one country to another. I got stopped once in a
mall by a researcher who wanted to see what countries coins I had in my
pocket. The thought was that the movement of the coins was going to
reflect how an illness would travel. Be interesting to see if SARS
matched what the researchers predicted.
