What got this discussion started was that I was having trouble with my
monitor on my current laptop. (Now working fine). But for me the biggest
thing in selecting a new laptop will be Screen "real estate" first. I
really like the newer wider screens. But the other stuff I know nothing
about so I appreciate all the information, opinions, etc that everyone has
given.
My current advise would be if you computer is acting up, overheating, not
running TMG fast enough, go shopping for a new one. Seems to have fixed
mine. ;)

Greetings:

The crux of this discussion (which I find interesting) is that for the vast
majority of TMG users, even those with very large databases and numerous big
graphic exhibits, the selection of the CPU is not going to matter very much.
Of course, "not broken" and "configured properly" are _sine qua non_. But
whatever the manufacturer, the brand, or the model of the chip, once you get
past the "486" and equivalents, the CPU architecture rapidly fades as a
factor in TMG performance. The following, listed in no particular order, are
much more important:

CPU clock speed and cooling
Memory
How many programs you run simultaneously
Hard drive speed, cache, and size
How clean and stable your Windows installation is
How well your CPU is matched to your version of Windows
Whether you have optimized your TMG data in the current geological epoch
