I recently got a new monitor for my desk. I splurged on the monitor
_instead_ of getting a desktop and stayed with my Dell laptop (Inspiron
8400). I got a Sony 19" flat panel LCD HS94P. The crispness of the text
and pictures is WONDERFUL! It has something called XBrite. I love it and
hope my laptop, which still has 1 1/2 years left under warranty will be
adequate for my needs. When working at my desk I hook up a keyboard and
mouse as well as the monitor. I telecommute a couple of days a week for
work and it is worth it because I spend a lot of hours at the screen.

With two monitors I have the option of having two windows open on separate
screens ... but I have bothered with that because the picture on the 19" is
so great!

Circuit City recently had it on sale, a month too late for me!

Ron,
I started the thread and still haven't decided to get a new one yet. <G>
But when I do, I will spend the extra money to get the 15" monitor. I think
the extra desktop space will be worth it to me as I get older. ;) I am
still deciding on processor and company, but I know I want the bigger
monitor. If only we could use it on one of those new big screen HDTVs. <G>

Subject: Re: [TMG] Tmg on celeron/Athlon

There was a brief mention a while ago on this thread that an Athlon-based
laptop would be comparable to a Pentium 4 (or Pentium-M?), and much better
than a Celeron for running TMG.

I'm looking for a laptop as a second computer and just wondered if anyone
could elaborate on this point, from personal experience with TMG or
otherwise. For example, I saw a recent ad for an AMD Athlon XP-M 2200+ ,
512 MB, 12" display notebook, and wondered how this would compare to, say, a

Centrino (which seems to be more expensive for similar configurations). And
does anyone have any experience with battery life of Athlon vs Centrino?

My TMG project currently contains about 4500 people, plus exhibits etc. I'd
also want to use software like Paint Shop Pro on the laptop (with a bunch of

genealogy-related images), and other miscellaneous programs (maybe even a
version of FTM for helping/working with relatives who may not have seen the
TMG "light" <g>).

Thanks for any comments.
