I delayed answering because I wanted to see some more answers first.
In general, I am often asked my opinion about TMG issues and I like to
understand the different points of view. As I wrote in a reply to someone
else, I use roles quite a bit and have modified my default sentences to take
advantage of them. I also use local sentences and in fact I probably have
hundreds in my data. Given that I am not completely wedded to any one
technique, I find it hard to answer people when they ask whether they should
or should not use local sentences.
Specifically, I was discussing TMG with some experienced TMG users when the
subject of local sentences came up. None of us really knew why some users
refuse to use local sentences. Being the curious type, I decided to ask.
