Michael,
I implemented Jill's method, with a few modifications, in my own
database a while ago and have been very pleased with it (thanks again,
Jill!). My identifying information goes in the Title field, which is
never used for anything else by me, and I will get picklist/Project
Explorer (PE) entries that look like the following:
, (mother of Philip J. Crossan)
, Elizabeth (mother of Florence Lab:)
, Elizabeth (wife of Jan Sprong:)
For the identifying relationship, I just make the decision on a
case-by-case basis as to how I think of the person and his/her relevance
to the family--are they important b/c they are the parent of someone or
because they are the spouse or child of someone? All in all it's very
helpful, and since the Title element is not used in the Name Style for
report output, it's for my purposes only. Once I decided to do this in
my project for people with at least one name (out of given name and
surname) unknown, it took me only a morning to make a Focus Group for
the necessary individuals and then work through them to add the
necessary information to their primary Name Tag. Put on some good
music, and the time will fly <g>.
